Change in Wednesday Schedule

Attention Odos Students and Parents,

PGBC and Odos take seriously the call to be a community reflecting the love of Jesus in our world.  Because of this, sometimes events arise that we feel need to have priority over our regularly scheduled meeting times.  Tonight is one of those nights…

Frank Reynolds is the much beloved bus driver for Odos.  More than that, Frank is a faithful friend and mentor to many of our students.  Yesterday evening, Frank’s father passed away and went to be with our Lord in Heaven.  As a sign of support for Frank, Odos tonight will consist of a visitation trip to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Elkin where Frank’s family is receiving guests.

If you would like to show your love and support for Frank and the Reynolds family, please meet outside the youth annex at 6:00pm and we will leave for Elkin shortly after.  We should return to PGBC no later than 8:00pm.  If we return early we will very briefly discuss our upcoming Christmas program.

As always if you have any questions please feel free to contact Alex at 678.758.5167

Youth Cookbook!!!

For our fall fundraiser we’ll be compiling a cookbook with everyone’s favorite 3 recipes.  We would like each student to submit a family recipe of their favorite main course, side, and dessert with pictures if possible.  We’ll devote an uncoming Sunday for printing and assembling the books and will sell them at the hanging of the green celebration at the end of November.  So remember, please give the following to Alex ASAP!!!

Tonight at Odos we’re continuing our study the Red Letter Experiment (RLX).  We’ll be in the youth annex tonight where Michael Reeves will lead us in conversation on Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at a well.  Come on out for a night of fun and fellowship!  See below for tonights text in full…

John 4:1-26

1 Now Jesus learned that the Pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John— 2 although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples. 3 So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.

4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.

7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)

9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.[a])

10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”

16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

17 “I have no husband,” she replied.

Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”

19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he.”

Tonight at Odos we’re getting back into our fall study the Red Letter Experiment (RLX).  We’ll be in the youth annex tonight where we’ll unpack Jesus’ words to Nicodemus in John 3.  Come join us for a night of fun and fellowship!  See below for tonights text in full…

John 3: 1-21

Jesus Teaches Nicodemus

1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.”

3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]

4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[c] must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[d]

9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.[e] 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,[f] 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”[g]

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

LOCK-IN TONIGHT!

Just a reminder Odos is having a lock-in tonight @PGBC!  Please see the details below…

Time: 9:30pm until 8:00am Saturday (please have someone pick you up at 8am)

What to bring:  1) $5 to help cover the cost of pizza.  2) Sleeping bag and pillow because you might actually want it.  3) (2) two-liters and snacks or “breakfasty” foods to share with others.  4) Movies and games 5) A friend

Parent/Guarding Permission:  I either need to see or hear from a parent for every youth to confirm that they know where their students will be tonight.  Nobody wants to go to jail for kidnapping and I don’t think students want to see their mom show up at 2am with rollers looking for their kid :)

Sleeping:  We’ll have guys and girls room for sleeping or napping throughout the night.  No purple!  No guys in girls room and no girls in guys room!!!

FYI:  This is a “LOCK-IN” meaning you are going to be locked into the church.  You are welcome to hangout in the annex and play sardines and such outside until midnight (12am).  After this time all students must be inside the church for the remained of the night! Also any activities outside will be done with the whole group.  No “wandering off!”

There will be a movie and game room set up for use all night.  Feel free to bring anything else you might enjoy with friends with the exception of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, fireworks, pitbulls, or anything you think you shouldn’t bring.  If you have to ask, the answer is probably no!

The 5th Quarter Tonight @ PGBC 9:30pm-Midnight

Tonight after the local football games, the youth at Piney Grove are hosting what we are calling “The 5th Quarter.”  We’ll have a lot of wacky games (with prizes) including underground church and sardines.  We also plan to show a movie.  As soon as your school’s game ends, head on over to Piney Grove and join the fun!

Feel free to come as early as 9:30pm but please tell your parents to pick you up by midnight!!!

If you are a regular at Piney Grove please bring a snack and drink to share!!!

Hope to see you all tonight for The 5th Quarter!
